What is it like being a Parent?

One of my good friends asked me this question the other day....
What is it like being a parent?
At the time I couldn't think of what to say because I've never really thought of what it is like. I just am a parent. The question stayed with me all week as I went about my role as a parent to my crazy toddlers.

Being a parent is everything. You literally have all the emotions/feelings going through you at different times (sometimes very rapidly, like when your toddler is being sweet hugging you and then spontaneously bites you).

It can be aggravating as anything when your children won't go to bed and all you want to do is drink some wine and watch Netflix. Or you want to eat that bowl of ice cream you've been dreaming about all day but you know those little food thieves will either steal it from you or cry if you don't share.

There are times when being a parent is heart-breaking. Your tiny little love has a fever and is crying because "I don't know what's going on with me". They are sick and can't communicate well how they are feeling. All you have to go off is what the thermometer says.

Parenting can be hilarious. Like when your toddler goes on a 5 minute ramble about what he would do if he was a long neck dinosaur. or when you are at a restaurant and he asks for chicken fingers and then seriously looks at you and asks for chicken thumbs instead.

It can be something that makes your heart want to burst. When you've been gone for an hour and they see you and run to you so excited exclaiming "I've been ooking (looking) for you ezzerywhere (everywhere). I uzz (love) you."

Parenting is an amazing adventure and I cannot imagine my life without these kids. There are hard days and easy days and times where I do not feel like I'm qualified to raise my tiny humans. They trust me wholeheartedly and love so openly. I am continually surprised by them and so blessed to be a parent.
