What is it like being a Parent?

One of my good friends asked me this question the other day.... What is it like being a parent? At the time I couldn't think of what to say because I've never really thought of what it is like. I just am a parent. The question stayed with me all week as I went about my role as a parent to my crazy toddlers. Being a parent is everything. You literally have all the emotions/feelings going through you at different times (sometimes very rapidly, like when your toddler is being sweet hugging you and then spontaneously bites you).  It can be aggravating as anything when your children won't go to bed and all you want to do is drink some wine and watch Netflix. Or you want to eat that bowl of ice cream you've been dreaming about all day but you know those little food thieves will either steal it from you or cry if you don't share.  There are times when being a parent is heart-breaking. Your tiny little love has a fever and is crying bec...

Healthy Habits

I've been doing a lot research lately on a whole host of random items/topics. The most recent one was on spices. I was curious about the benefits of buying organic versus purchasing the cheaper option. After reading some articles, we will be forking out the money for organic. I do not consider myself a paranoid parent or someone who worries too much about my children, but when it comes to the things that they eat, I get anxious. I am not sure what the effects of every food item my children consume are, but I do advocate for them to eat healthy and have food that doesn't have dye and has as little sugar as possible. These are the things that keep me up at night. A few proud moments for me with parenting was when my toddler told me that his smoothie drink had "no added sugar. it's good for me" and also that "oranges are yummy and healthy". I want him and his siblings to grow up knowing where food comes from and the benefits of a healthy diet. My oldest a...

Mom Shaming

I have heard this term come up a couple times on the different "mom groups" that I'm part of on Facebook. "Mom Shaming" Although everyone says not to be bothered by what other moms say and to be confident in your parenting, it can be really difficult when another person shames your way of being a mom.  I have friends that cloth diaper their kids, friends that use whatever disposables are on sale, and friends that use a mix of disposable diapers and cloth. I know moms that breastfeed and formula feed, those that follow baby lead weaning and those that do baby food purees. These moms are all very different and have different approaches to caring for their children. They all do have something in common though, they love their child(ren) and want the best for them. Each way of care has its benefits and its difficulties but the heart of it all is what matters. Their approaches are not causing harm and no neglect is occurring either.  It is okay to ...

Running

In High school I used to run a lot. It increased in the years following high school to the point that I was running 3 miles a day and loved it! I got busy with life and traveling and later having children that I didn't run as much and eventually stopped. Well, two kids later (2 yr old and 7 month old) and I ran tonight! I cannot believe that I have waited this long to get back into running. I'll be honest, I love running for the cute work out clothes and new running shoes! But I also really love it for the "runner's high" that only those that run can truly understand. It is exhilarating to run and increase your speed and distance. I've only ever done one actual running 5k but I plan on adding to that this Fall (only the brave, and insane run in the summer in Arkansas). I kept using the excuse that I can never get back to the fitness level that I was at a few years ago or that I can't because I have children so I have no time. Those excuses were not valid...

Welcome!

Welcome to the first post of my new blog: Ramblings of a Mama. I wanted a separate blog where I could give you, my faithful reader, copious amounts of sage advice and wisdom... In reality, I just wanted space to talk, or type. Whichever seems more appropriate. Stay tuned for that advice though in case I come up with something profound. I'm currently eating popcorn and drinking apple juice at 10pm because that's what adults do. I'm also trying to figure out a way to keep my house clean with my 2 year old around. You can actually see the floor in the living room AND walk around without breaking your foot on toys. It has lasted an entire day, barely. I did have to clean up a few toy trains after he went to bed. He does like to clean up his own toys occasionally, but I don't think I can expect perfection from a toddler and actually get that. More for you later. Adults go to bed early 😴🛌💤
